On the Naomi St. side of the Aztec Financial building located at 2624 W. Magnolia Blvd are these fantastically painted window treatments. Inside the office in the lobby are incredible murals of Aztec Indian life. I am hoping to get permission to show those in another post.

I have driven by this sculpture at 1800 West Magnolia Blvd. so many times, and just yesterday exclaimed, "Hey, that's art!!" From the street, the sculpture is somewhat hidden among the trees at the corner of Orchard St. However, It's design describes it so perfectly because I instantly thought to myself, "It looks like a totem pole with pictures of dead presidents" (in other words, money). "Money Totem" is exactly what artist, Ron Pekar, calls his sculpture built of graphically cut Corten steel and mesh. Six portraits of presidents as seen on American money rise up one above the other overlooking the parking lot of the Burbank City Federal Credit Union.
The Magnolia Park district has many unique little shops and this one is decorated with a second story! There may be other stories on the inside of Encore Nouveau, located at 3322 Magnolia Blvd. at the corner of Lima. The artwork was done by Sara J. Bodwell, painter and muralist.
This painting is very close to my home, and my heart as it contains two of my favorite things; a big tree and mountains in the distance. It can be found just off Magnolia Blvd. on Niagara St. on the side of the building where NorthStar Ballroom Dance Studio is located.
Ann of Magnolia was the business that was there when I first noticed this mural several years ago and that is the name I think of when I see the Magnolia tree. It is my informal title of the piece. I did not find a signature of the artist, so thank you unknown painter for this peaceful and majestic scene. I'm so glad it has remained through the change of businesses. Wander down the alley to see this funky mural by graffiti artist, Rasko. It is located behind Wax Poetic Salon, 3208 W. Magnolia Blvd., between Ontario and California St.
The first thing that attracted me to Magnolia Park United Methodist Church was its mission style architecture. This charming character continues in the Sanctuary with beamed ceilings and arched openings. The most sacred items to me are the beautiful stained glass windows. I love to see Jesus welcome me* with open arms. I find the image quite comforting and a focus for worship. The stained glass windows were installed when the church was built in 1929. In the late seventies it was determined that age and the elements were taking their toll on the windows, so an opaque white covering was installed on the outside to help preserve them. Unfortunately that means they are not visible from the outside. Fortunately the light still comes through and they are quite beautiful from the inside. Upon close examination one can see that many of the small details are painted onto the glass.
Magnolia Park United Methodist Church, which is now known as the Lighthouse at Magnolia Park, is located on the corner of Magnolia Blvd. and Catalina St. at 2828 W. Magnolia Blvd in Burbank with services every Sunday at 10am. *Jesus welcomes all who need him with love and compassion! |
